Description:

Humane Society Silicon Valley seeks enthusiastic, quick learner to provide relief Veterinary Technician services for our Shelter Medical department. Temporary assignment starting in December to cover scheduled leaves.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Ensure all shelter guests receive a medical plan to enhance their adoptability
* Provide quality of life to animals through efficient practices and timely treatments
* Perform daily rounds to ensure that animals are getting adequate care
* Triage emergencies and provide medical care for timely and humane treatment
* Demonstrate understanding of animal diseases and transmission to other animals and people
* Follow all established safety procedures and protocols

PARTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
* High school graduate or equivalent
* Veterinary Technician training or equivalent experience
* Ability to pass post-offer physical, back assessment, drug screen and background check
* Restrain and handle unruly animals in a safe, humane fashion
* Maintain accurate health records- both manual and computer database
* Computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, database systems
* Knowledge of medical and veterinary terminology
* Provide high quality care and service to all customers
* Demonstrate an attitude of consideration and professionalism to all members of the public, volunteers and coworkers

ENVIRONMENT, WORKING CONDITIONS & SCHEDULE:
* Frequent exposure to load noise, odors, chemicals, controlled substances, needles, syringes and other supplies used to treat animals
* Lift/carry up to 45 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally
* Kneel at floor level, bend forward at the waist and reach forward at shoulder height and above
* Safe and proper use of cleaning solutions, broom, shovel, hoses and disinfectant agents
* Primarily day shift, some evening hours. Weekly schedule will vary depending on staffing needs
